It’s deeply rewarding to make a difference in people’s lives through the buildings we design, and I continually witness their positive impact in the communities they serve.
I bring an undiminished passion to my design work, with experience from over 35 years of architectural practice. As Kasian’s Public sector leader, I am privileged to work with clients like Public Works and Procurement Services Canada, Defense Construction Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, Transport Canada, the RCMP, BC Hydro and many others.
I have served the private sector with equal energy, completing extensive work in commercial, mixed-use, residential and industrial projects. As a leader in multi-stakeholder projects, I enjoy bringing integrated teams together to create something of intelligence and beauty. My degree in Civil Engineering, accompanied by tenures as a geotechnical technician and structural designer, have given me a unique perspective when assembling complex buildings. Creating great designs is still my primary passion — it’s why I love this profession.
My Sectors: Government Administration; Industrial; Utilities; Military, Public Safety & Justice.
My Services: Architecture; Strategic Programming & Planning
We asked, Alan Nakaska answered:
What makes a great design?
“A great design has multiple layers; from the first, obvious layer to the last, often-hidden layer. It satisfies many people and many objectives: aesthetics, function, process, suitability, budget, and delight — the most important.”
What does success mean to you?
“Success is a satisfied client and user group. It’s creating a memorable place, and enhancing the experience of the people who use it. Pleasure is quite necessary.”
