Stevenson Memorial Hospital Awards Kasian as Prime Consultant for Hospital Redevelopment

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital in Alliston, Ontario, took one step closer to realizing its redevelopment plans following the recent closing of its Request for Tenders for Architect Services, for Phase 1 of the redeveloped Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The project will expand and modernize the existing 1964 facility through the construction of an addition that would almost double the size of the hospital and create new modern inpatient units totaling 47 beds, as well as new surgical and diagnostic suites, and a new Emergency Department among other services.

Kasian has partnered nationally with clients to deliver over 200 healthcare projects across Canada. Founded in 1983 in Edmonton, Kasian established its Toronto office in 2006. Since then, the integrated architecture, interior design and planning firm has served as the Prime Consultant for numerous acute care hospitals in Ontario. Kasian has become a trusted, credible partner, by helping clients improve patient outcomes through the enhancement of the patient experience and supporting the needs of all care providers at many prominent Canadian healthcare organizations. For example, in Ontario, Kasian led the redevelopment of the Quinte Health Care Belleville General Hospital and is currently designing the expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department, Fracture Clinic, and Cardiac Diagnostic and Arrhythmia Clinic at the Centenary Health site at Scarborough Health Network. Kasian also holds Vendor of Record status with University Health Network, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences, and Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation. Across Canada, Kasian recently completed the design and construction of the new Stanton General Hospital in Yellowknife, the new South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, and the new Clinical Patient Tower at The Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops BC.

Kasian’s team for the Stevenson Memorial Hospital redevelopment is led by Ian Sinclair as Principal-in-Charge and Abhishek Gupta as Project Manager. Ian, a seasoned hospital capital planning and operations executive with over 35 years of experience, has led some of Canada’s most celebrated healthcare projects including the Bridgepoint Health Master Plan, the Credit Valley Hospital Ambulatory Care and Cancer Centre Redevelopment. and most recently, the master planning for the $2 billion redevelopment of the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Abhishek brings over 20 years of healthcare project experience and has built a strong track record in both Canada and internationally of successfully delivering complex healthcare projects, leading large multi-disciplinary teams, and managing contracts, user groups, and clients.

Drawing from healthcare experience in all major procurement models, building types, and stages, Kasian maintains its steadfast commitment to collaboration with patients, families, clinicians, and support staff to co-create design solutions throughout the Alliston hospital’s redevelopment.

“At Kasian, we believe there is one primary reason to design a new hospital: to improve patient and community outcomes. The key to achieving this, we believe, is not by simply offering answers, but by having the wisdom and good judgment to ask better questions. This means we are committed unlike anyone else, to bring patients, their families, and staff to the planning table so the building is co-designed by, and for those it is intended to serve,” says Ian Sinclair.

“We are looking forward to working with Kasian to help bring our vision of a redeveloped hospital for our community to life,” says Jody Levac, President and CEO, SMH. “Their work will be critical in this next Design phase, which is Stage 3 of the Ministry of Health’s redevelopment process. Kasian’s work in designing and planning hospital redevelopments leaves us confident that we will have the hospital that we need and deserve.”
