I’m an architect, creative city builder and urbanist who thrives on the life of the city — and that life begins at ground level.
As the Commercial sector’s Lead Architect and global chair of Kasian’s Lifescape™ team, I lead cross-disciplinary efforts to enrich how we live, work, play and gather in urban settings. My work with Lifescape™ holistically integrates street-level experiences inside and out, for new and existing spaces, to deliver positive socioeconomic and quality-of-life outcomes. I lead design teams that work from a place of insatiable curiosity, bringing significant mixed-use, commercial, community, cultural and adaptive re-use projects to life.
I have a track record of over 11 million square feet of built work, including some of Western Canada’s — and the world’s — tallest buildings. Throughout my career, I have been active with the Urban Land Institute, representing committees and councils at the local and national levels, including chairing the Alberta District Council. I currently represent ULI’s Redevelopment and Re-use National Product Council. I co-founded Art and the City, dedicated to highlighting art and public spaces in Calgary. I am passionate about furthering innovation and was voted one of Avenue Calgary’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2020. I regularly engage with my community on grass-roots initiatives, partnering with innovators, students, entrepreneurs and Calgary’s new wave of young and exciting talent.
My Sectors: Commercial Mixed-Use & and Industrial.
My Services: Architecture, Lifescape, Master Planning & Urban Design, and Planning, Design & Conformance.
We asked, Will Craig answered:
What have you achieved in your career that you’re particularly proud of?
“I’m proud of creating positive change in the community most of all. It’s about making impacts in our communities, enriching lives. Seeing our projects and activations get realized and being a part of that is awesome. Activations like Art in the City in Calgary, and projects like The District at Beltline in Calgary getting realized are fantastic. I’m always engaged in the process of city building, and love to advance the conversation about human-centred design. In bringing things to the ground level, working between these two lenses of high density and smaller scale, is my calling to shape cities in this way.”
What’s something you want more people to know about Lifescape™?
“It’s about people and creating emotional bonds to a place. We do this by holistically integrating things at the ground level, creating vibrant places in our cities. It’s a philosophy and a unique multi-disciplinary service that Kasian offers. Lifescape™ is a future-forward way of thinking about our cities, doing something that hasn’t been done before. We’re going to see more of this.”
