‘Basswood Senior Residences, a new affordable senior living community in Brampton, Ontario, has completed vertical construction, according to Canadian Architect.

The 198-unit community is housed in a new 9-story, 148,000-square-foot hybrid building with a concrete ground floor and eight residential floors constructed with cross-laminated timber.

The project is targeting Net Zero Emissions and Zero Carbon Building certification. In addition to the low-carbon timber structure, the project features geothermal heating and cooling, a high-performance envelope, and solar-ready rooftop infrastructure.

The community comprises primarily studio and one-bedroom units, along with a selection of two-bedroom suites. Accessibility features include fully wheelchair-barrier-free entries and floor plans in 44 percent of the units, with pull-under cook tops and sinks, accessible millwork, turning circles, and transfer spaces.’
