‘A newly redesigned shower room at the University Health Network (UHN)’s Toronto Rehab University Centre combines innovation and collaboration to improve care for people living with dementia while showing how thoughtful, evidence-based design can support patient well-being.’
‘The initial concept of the project was developed in collaboration with Dr. Ron Keren, a geriatric psychiatrist at Toronto Rehab. Led by associate professor Maya Mahgoub-Desai and associate professor Bruce Hinds and with research methods support from professor Dr. Kate Sellen, the studio guided students through a design process that led to concepts for the unit, including the existing shower spaces. This early work eventually laid the groundwork for UHN’s built solution, with the redesign bringing studio and research recommendations into a real clinical setting.’
