The Wetaskiwin Medical Device Reprocessing Department (MDR) is undergoing a complete renovation to meet facility demands as well as the current standards for infection protection and control. The scope of work includes the design for: 2 Sterilizers; 3 Washer Disinfectors; 1 Endoscope Reprocessor, including a dedicated scope processing room; 2 Pass-through windows; 2 Ultrasonics; 2 Triple Sinks; 1 Double sink; and the existing cart wash is to remain.
The process and flow of instruments from dirty to clean to sterile was clearly mapped during the design process and drove the design of the MDR. In collaboration with Alberta Health Services and the equipment vendors, Kasian and our design team worked together to coordinate required services to the new equipment.
Throughout construction, Kasian worked alongside the contractor to successfully bring the project to completion. Challenges were resolved with a collaborative approach ensuring all disciplines and stakeholders had a voice. Hospital Facilities Maintenance and Engineering and the User Group Team were regularly consulted throughout design and construction to ensure the finished department suited the needs of clinical and maintenance staff.
