The Saskatoon Civic Operations Centre (SCOC) is a brand new facility co-locating two civic operations: it is the new hub for Saskatoon Transit and is home to the City’s first Snow Management Facility. The 440,000 sf Transit Operations Facility (TOF) houses 250 buses indoors, 29 maintenance bays, equipment and parts storage, administration offices and future expansion capacity. The Snow Management Facility includes a large concrete pad holding up to one million cubic metres of snow. The adjacent settling pond collects sand and other debris, and controls runoff.
The TOF’s exterior responds to the City of Saskatoon’s principles of quality, durability, security, maintainability and accessibility, while reflecting the unique prairie environment. Cladding colours emphasize Saskatoon’s horizontal prairie grasses, along with a bottom-to-top gradient of colours that matches the transition between prairie and sky. Like wind blowing through grass, a vertical application of L-shapes along the bus storage façades casts dancing shadows on sunny days.
