The Chapel Crescent Office renovation transformed a dated service centre for Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) into a bright, accessible workplace that responds to the diverse needs of staff and the community it serves.

More than a typical interior project, it was approached as an opportunity to create a space with renewed purpose, reinforcing the site’s role as a welcoming hub where people feel supported, seen, and represented.

Despite the challenge of a long, narrow footprint, refined planning and strategic use of wood-framed glass partitions create an open, light-filled environment without compromising privacy. The new design provides a variety of functional workspaces that enable staff to work more effectively and collaboratively. A clear delineation of client-facing areas and staff-focused zones improves both focus and service delivery.

With a modest budget and the need to minimize disruption, strong coordination between Kasian and OCH enabled the team to maintain an accelerated schedule and deliver a durable and beautiful design.

By understanding the requirements of both staff and residents, the vibrant and uplifting retrofit not only meets practical needs but embodies the spirit of community. While OCH was the client, the design was guided by a higher purpose – to serve those who depend on its services and support the dedicated people who deliver them.
