EV Battery Plant: Powering Progress – Designing the Future of EV Batteries

NextStar Energy is a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis, aiming to revolutionize the North American electric vehicle industry with the development of the first large-scale EV battery manufacturing plant in Ontario. 

The automotive lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing and module production facility will house electrode production, assembly, formation, testing, and modularization operations across a campus of buildings located on a 220-acre site in Windsor, Ontario. The new facility’s Cell Building is responsible for the cell manufacturing process, while the Module Building handles the packing and shipping of the final product. 

In addition to assisting Gresham Smith Architects with the facility’s architectural and interior design, Kasian was engaged to handle the FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) scope on the entire project. As architect of record for the Module Building, Kasian continues to oversee the construction of the project until Final Completion. 

While Module Building and ancillary buildings were substantially completed and handed over to NextStar Energy in June 2024, exactly as per schedule, phased occupancies of the Cell Building have been taking place since the end of 2024. Kasian continues to be engaged to provide field review of the Cell Building and design of the Admin component. Substantial completion of the Cell Building is scheduled for Q4 of 2025. 

Kasian further strengthens our Windsor presence which also includes the PDC role as the lead architect on Gordie Howe Bridge project, the largest border crossing in North America, as well as the variety of significant contributions to St Clair College redevelopment.
