Following an acquisition, a growing company required a new workplace to bring together all staff and foster a unified culture, supporting more integrated, collaborative, and flexible ways of working.
The modern, activity-based environment reflects the company’s forward-thinking vision while prioritizing employee well-being and connection. The planning strategy shifted away from the traditional hierarchy toward a more inclusive model.
Offices are universal in size and fully glazed to promote transparency, while a ‘neighbourhood’ concept replaces the 80/20 office-to-workstation ratio of with collaborative team zones that support integration and knowledge-sharing.
At the heart of the workplace is a central staircase, retained from the original structure and extended to all five floors. Brought up to code and aesthetically renewed, the redesigned staircase integrates a museum-quality display case showcasing company artifacts and memorabilia, providing an engaging company history as people move between floors. A fire-rated one-door solution ensures safety while preserving openness and connection.
A central ‘main street’ connects shared elements including cafés and meeting rooms, encouraging movement and interaction. A community commons floor with training centre and staff lounge provides a casual, welcoming setting to work, gather, and unwind.
Materials were selected for their durability, timelessness, and compatibility with a natural palette – reducing waste and aligning with the company’s environmental values and commitment to sustainability. Bold design elements including a large-scale topographic map and neon signage infuse the workplace with personality and add further historical significance, grounding the space in the company’s legacy while supporting its future ambitions.
