The WH11 mixed-use, urban townhouse project is a community within a community. The project pushes the boundaries of what is possible on a small urban site, demonstrating that increased density and enhanced community can coexist.
The proposed land use change and development vision for 114 & 118 19 ST NW will realize new and much needed ‘Missing Middle’ rental housing and neighbourhood-scale commercial options within the City of Calgary community of West Hillhurst. The proposed project aims to deliver well-located, high-quality, and affordable rental housing options for Canadians of various incomes and life stages.
The City of Calgary’s recent rezoning has heightened the need for more considered urban scaling. A mixed-use development with stacked townhouses and neighbourhood-scale, street-oriented commercial is proposed into a single parcel of land. The design embraces a community scale that is both sensitive and responsive to the surrounding established areas without overwhelming the neighborhood’s existing character.
The development prioritizes livability and accessibility, fostering connections between residents. Stacked living units offer a range of dwelling sizes, including 3-bedroom units that cater to families and multi-generational living, as well as 1-bedroom ground floor and basement suites. Every unit is naturally daylit from either end. Walk-outs and balconies ensure living and bedroom spaces have ample access to the outdoors. Access to units is provided from both the street and the lane, further encouraging interaction and fostering a sense of togetherness.
