Connect with Sonja

I want clients to remember not only the successful outcome of a project, but also the experience of getting there.

With more than 20 years of experience, Sonja brings a depth of knowledge with a light-hearted approach to design. She believes that trust, honesty, and teamwork are at the heart of all great projects, and that the best ideas come from people working together toward a common goal.

Sonja’s philosophy is simple: great projects happen when everyone has a seat at the table. By fostering collaboration among clients, consultants, contractors, and project teams, she helps turn ideas into successful outcomes. She thrives on working with energetic, motivated people and believes that great work should be enjoyable. After all, if we’re not having fun, what are we doing here?

Her career includes 10 years with a large international design firm as well as running her own business, giving her a unique perspective on both design and project delivery. Over the years, she has worked on a variety of notable projects, including the Edmonton Oilers Dressing Room Renovation and head offices for EPCOR at Station Lands and Navacord Insurance.

Beyond her project work, Sonja is active in Edmonton’s commercial real estate and design community. A board member of CREW Edmonton, she regularly participates in industry events and is passionate about mentoring the next generation of designers.

We Asked, Sonja Dutra Answered:

What inspires you?

‟I find inspiration in teaching and sharing my passion for the things I love. This includes collaborating with clients and guiding them through the project process, helping them understand not just the “what,” but the “why” behind what we’re doing. I’m also motivated by mentoring younger team members, helping them grow and build confidence. My lifelong love of teaching has taken many forms, from being a swimming instructor to coaching mountain biking, and continues to energize me both personally and professionally.”

How would you describe your working/leadership style?

“Approachable, curious, and improvement oriented. I like to create an environment where people feel comfortable sharing ideas, trying new approaches, and challenging the status quo. I’m often asking whether there’s a better way to do something, even if it means pushing boundaries. I’m a big believer in understanding the intent behind the rules and, where appropriate, finding a smarter or more effective way to achieve the same outcome.”
