RCMP Kelowna: A secure, adaptable headquarters reflecting community and landscape

As part of a design-build team, we developed this state-of-the-art RCMP headquarters to support the growing Kelowna community. The design aesthetic balances the highly secure nature of a police facility with elements that reflect the vibrant lakeside community. The form of the building has been shaped to fit the evolving urban fabric of Kelowna’s downtown. Thoughtful placement of windows frame views of the surrounding Okanagan landscape and introduce natural light without compromising security. The colour palette of the building is drawn from that surrounding landscape, using materials such as wood and stone which are durable and timeless.

The building has been laid out and constructed to maximize flexibility, now and in the future. A simple central spine organizes the building and provides the main circulation. This layout is easy to adapt, allowing the reorganization of spaces off of the spine. Additionally, the building structure and systems have been designed to be expanded in the future without interrupting ongoing operations.
