Description

Creating a long-term framework for future renewal

The Esquimalt Graving Dock (EGD) is a Government of Canada owned site that provides ship repair facilities for tenants. To develop a master plan to increase operational capacity, we had to define a complex program for critical, time-sensitive operations and place them within a challenging site that has restricted plannable area, a significant elevation change across the site, contaminated and liquefiable soils within a high risk seismic zone, protected habitats, and sensitive archeological areas. The master plan considers the best use of land, placing right-sized facilities to achieve ideal adjacencies and workflows while preserving the culturally and environmentally sensitive site features. It provides the long-term framework for renewal and outlines sustainability targets to address climate resiliency, energy and carbon and holistic sustainability.
