The Diwan was delivered as a joint venture alongside Axia Design Associates (Design Architect) and Arriz + Co (Interior Design).

This year-round pavilion is located within the University of Alberta Botanic Garden. As an extension of the Aga Khan Garden, The Diwan Pavilion reflects the architectural language and landscape of the natural surroundings, as well as the University’s vision, design principles, and sustainability plan.

This project is comprised of a 2-storey building consisting of a banquet hall and related amenities on the main level, along with a second floor consisting of a mechanical room and an exterior terrace. A generous central gathering hall is a key focal point for visitor interaction providing flexibility to host diverse events to increase cultural understanding and promote inclusion.

The design of the Diwan is inspired by the principles and rich history of Islamic Moghul gardens, while introducing a contemporary program within a public context.
