In addition to the new RCMP building projects, such as E-Division and the Kelowna RCMP Services Building, Kasian has worked with the RCMP on strategic planning and renovation/expansion projects:
Burnaby RCMP Detachment Needs Assessment
Kasian was retained to perform a Needs Assessment of the Burnaby RCMP Detachment at Burnaby Lake. We analyzed the existing site and building spaces, led a visioning process, and then developed a future state program with a gap analysis. The program was then translated into four potential site options ranging from renovating the existing building, constructing a new building on the existing site and constructing a new building at a new site. Based on the study, the City is currently building a new three-storey, 129,000-square-foot detachment north of the existing site through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process.

Maple Ridge RCMP Detachment
Kasian was retained to perform an interior Space Needs Assessment for the Maple Ridge RCMP Detachment. Through site visits, interviews, and working sessions, we documented their existing workplace and analyzed its effectiveness and deficiencies operationally and against the current RCMP standards. We made recommendations for short-term improvements to address immediate growth needs. We then developed a long-term future state program based on RCMP standards and site-specific needs to inform future capital planning.

Nanaimo RCMP Detachment
Kasian was retained to perform a Space Needs Assessment for the Nanaimo RCMP Detachment. In Phase 1 of the project we analyzed the existing site as well as the current state of operations and building spaces. We identified the existing challenges as well as the anticipated shortfalls for space and infrastructure in the near term (5 years). As a result, we worked with the City and RCMP to establish a temporary accommodation strategy, relocating some staff and support space into available adjacent civic buildings to better accommodate the RCMP’s short term needs.
In Phase 2, Kasian developed a long-term future state program and conceptual site redevelopment plans for a new modern facility to serve the growing City of Nanaimo.
