Kasian designed a new Canadian Headquarters for Mammoet Canada in northeast Edmonton. The new facility is a three-storey office structure with a nine bay maintenance shop for cranes and large transportation equipment, including lube pits, a welding shop, parts area, washbay and overhead cranes. To ensure we designed the best solution for Mammoet, the Kasian team travelled to their world headquarters in Rotterdam to understand their processes, their facility preferences and their brand identity.
The Mammoet brand was expressed through the exterior façade and form of the building, with an angled black curtainwall entry, red aluminum wing walls and a mix of light grey metal panels and black masonry, expressing the corporate colours. Inside, we looked for opportunities to provide connections between staff, particularly between administrative and maintenance staff, to build on the Mammoet corporate culture. This was achieve through a three storey interconnected atrium with a dramatic steel stairwell that acts as a central hub, incorporating amenity spaces, such as coffee stations to encourage staff to gather and mix.
The facility sits in a carefully considered landscape which includes a retention pond. The pond and surrounding area are designed to return the area to a natural setting for wildlife, and to create a park like setting for the headquarters.
