A memorable and timeless space for clients and guests
The relocated premises of a historic law firm (established 1889) occupies two floors of a downtown Calgary office tower. The 30,000 square feet previously occupied by another law firm incorporates design updates with an understated quality and timelessness that underpins and projects the firm’s brand. Incorporating a client-friendly, sophisticated and layered residential aesthetic, the renovations convey both the sense of quiet solidity of this 130-year old firm with the engagement and creativity of a leading, growing firm.
In keeping with the firm’s image, a sense of quality was achieved without ostentatiousness. A palette of contrasting materials and variety of textures, including honed white Carrara marble flooring, matte charcoal stained oak portals with brushed stainless steel accents, and a mirrored chrome Reception desk, depicts a timeless character. A high level of contrast in architectural finishes and lighting creates a sense of drama and a strong backdrop for the firm’s contemporary art pieces.
Lighting and furnishings were selected to create the impression of a collection carefully curated over time. Old contrasts with new: an overdyed area carpet fabricated from vintage remnants and 1940s Seguso table lamps, combine with new custom furniture and architectural classics. Designers maximized a limited budget by retaining and cosmetically upgrading the practice areas. Renovated back areas outfitted with charcoal grey ergonomic furnishings blend seamlessly with the new construction.
The new premises convey an elegant, comfortable, professional attitude that is memorable to clients and guests, providing the firm with flexibility, and the technology tools to support a contemporary workforce.
