Improving wildfire response and management capabilities
To support the fire suppression and monitoring capabilities in one of British Columbia’s largest and most active fire suppression zones, the Ministry required a more comprehensive fire response and training facility. As the strategic operations based for out-of-province firefighters during peak season, it was essential the facility could house upwards of 58 people.
Working closely with stakeholders, Kasian designed a facility that supports the emergency needs of the area and provides crucial hands-on training and assessment for firefighting recruits. The facility is designed to support regular and emergency operations and has the necessary facilities to develop firefighting skills in a similar, yet safe environment.
The B.C. government is committed to safeguarding the well-being of B.C.'s families and protecting our natural resources and infrastructure. The new firefighting and training facilities in Merritt will expand our capabilities and benefit communities throughout B.C.
