Increased air travel calls for optimized design

Expanding baggage handling capacity

Hold Bag Screen at Toronto Pearson Airport Terminal 1

To meet the demand for increased security via the Canadian Air Transport Security Commission a three level hold bag screen facility is being designed. Kasian with Trisect Construction, the design-build team are working closely with consultants to develop a design that expands baggage handling capacity and minimizes disruption to airport operations.

With a limited footprint available, the design team needed to integrate the building volume within the existing complex. Using a similar building envelope the new facility hovers over the existing parking area. To ensure the technology to move luggage was successful and to work efficiently in the limited space while respecting airport and airport authority standards, Revit and Navisworks were used throughout.
