A new activity space for Edmonton

Revitalizing a community through sport

Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre

The City of Edmonton and Edmonton Eskimos’ had a vision to build a freestanding field house for the Eskimos and to expand the existing community recreation facility to trigger revitalization in the community.

Working as a team Kasian (formerly HIP) in joint venture with MJM Architects completed an initial master planning exercise, the designers proposed an integrated facility that combined a field house, fitness centre, pool, and the Eskimos administration. As only the second recreation centre to open in Edmonton in almost 30 years, the LEED Silver Certified Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre is a state-of-the-art multi-use complex that has been touted as ‘a real jewel in the heart of Edmonton.’
