A reflection of casual sophistication
Appealing to both international clientele + relaxed work styles
With sweeping city views and a relaxed workstyle, the city of Vancouver itself became the inspiration of this project and is reflected in the use of concrete and natural wood, locally crafted furniture and an extensive art collection. The client requested a workplace that balanced the expectations of their international, executive clientele and their relaxed Vancouver style of doing business. The objective was to reflect not what business they do but rather how they do business. Primary functional objectives were to allow for future growth, provide more meeting spaces, create a more engaging and collaborative environment, and maximize access to the spectacular views.
Clean, modern lines and finishes and a high level of transparency mitigate the requirement of 75% of staff located in private offices. Universal sit-stand desks, and a natural palette of finishes were employed to offset this conventional hierarchy of spaces. Clients enter on an open lounge and active staff kitchen complete with espresso bar. This is the heart of the office, the natural encounter point, and the first impression that informs the user of the casual sophistication inherent throughout the space. The concept was to create a workplace that embodied the causal sophistication, and relaxed professionalism evident and important to our client’s workplace culture. The client was very engaged in the design process and in the selection of pieces of art and locally manufactured furniture such as the custom boardroom table using BC live edge cedar.
