The non-profit International Bamboo and Rattan (INBAR) organization required a new space, in Beijing, China. Besides INBAR, the development would include a 15-storey commercial office tower; a 24-storey luxury hotel, and serve as a prominent landmark.
The final design focuses on the new INBAR building, which includes a 600 seat auditorium, an exhibition gallery, seminar rooms, and administrative offices. The design of the Institute is inspired by the concept of a jewel box whereby glass compartments project and extend from the facades like jewels within the building. This allows views into and through the building.
