The University of Northern British Columbia required a technologically cutting-edge facility to house the university’s new Northern Medical Program.
The new design bridges two buildings with a sky-lit atrium. The sense of a river flowing between the two buildings is created by the use of curved light-wood dividers, a contrasting carpet design, and a patterned ceramic tile floor. Moreover, the space utilizes elements of stone, water, and local wood products to reflect the Northern context. It was awarded the 2006 Wood Works Award and the 2005 Masonry Design Merit Award in the Government/Institutional Category.
