Located in the Henan province of central China, Luoyang is one of the four “Ancient Capitals” of China, along with Beijing, Nanjing and Xi’an. The site of the Luoyang Shanghai Market Redevelopment is in an industrial suburb of the city, and it is foreseen that this site will form the centerpiece of a new regional town centre.

This 9.5M square foot development is mixed-use, and includes highrise residential, hotels, retail and office uses, as well as a historical museum and conference centre. The site will tell the story of the 13 Chinese Dynasties whose capital city was Luoyang: there are 13 squares on the site, and each will contain an interactive information panel as well as off-site display boxes for works from each dynasty. The museum itself will house  collections from these dynasties as well as works from other historical eras. This project will become the focal   point for tourists visiting the city, and it will be a catalyst for the redevelopment of this part of the city. The site is bisected by large park spaces, which form part of a larger pattern of landscape “brush strokes” which we  are proposing on an urban scale to provide better access to recreation spaces throughout the city.
