Kasian designed this 45,000 sq. ft. facility for the Calgary Humane Society. The facility is a centre of interpretation, education, adoption, and outreach for Calgary’s companion animals. It houses a variety of animals, and will also facilitate their safe rehabilitation, training, and a comfortable move through the adoption process.
This building employs sustainable design principles, will apply for CBIP funding, and has enjoyed the benefits of employing an integrated design process. The issues to consider while designing an animal facility such as the Calgary Humane Society are: disease control, maintenance, air circulation, complimentary revenue generating opportunities, and creative design solutions to allow for the training of humans and animals alike.
