Breaking ground earlier this fall, the new YW Calgary “Hub Facility” is beginning to take shape in Inglewood, Calgary. The new facility will provide a cohesive, supportive environment for women and their families; including, transitional housing for 100 women, counselling services, employment, training and parenting programs, and the YW’s administration and vital child care services. The Hub facility will provide opportunities for community interaction and integration within the Inglewood neighborhood with its multipurpose spaces and community kitchen. Truly designed from the “inside-out,” you’ll find a 12,000 sf, protected sanctuary in the heart of the development which will provide access to outdoor areas for play, reflection, and relaxation from all areas of the building.
As January comes to a close, all areas of the build site are filled with activities: below grade foundation work is to be completed at the end of the month which will lead to above grade construction; and, concrete columns, stair and elevator cores, and floor slabs on level 2 and 3 of the staggered-height building are progressing which will provide a real sense of the building footprint on the site.
“From the very beginning this has really been a special project. Working together with our entire project team, we have tried to realize our client’s vision for a facility that will help them to continue to meet the needs of the women and families they serve, while being truly integrated within the Inglewood community. We have had an excellent start to construction and will continue to push forward to complete the superstructure this spring. As we plan our efforts for the work ahead, we are certainly looking forward to welcoming the YWCA home as our Inglewood neighbor in the spring of 2019.” – Meghan Larway, Senior Project Architect
