Kasian Appointed Lead Architects For New ‘City Park’ Development In Nanjing, China
BC Premier Christy Clark to witness official signing ceremony

Nanjing, China – November 8th, 2011 – Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd (Kasian), in conjunction with Vancouver-based developer Westbank Projects Corp (Westbank), will design and build a new mixed use community development in the ancient city of Nanjing, China.  Known as ‘City Park’, this 400,000 m² (4,300,000 sq ft) project is inspired by the vibrant pedestrian boulevard of Las Ramblas in Barcelona, Spain. This development will include a thriving tree-lined pedestrian street incorporating a 55-storey, 5-star hotel and conference centre, retail stores, entertainment venues, restaurants, commercial offices and community facilities. The public ‘Rambla’ will be flanked by landscaped semi-private residential courtyards and decorative water features. Michael McDonald is the Director of Kasian Global and the lead architect for ‘City Park’: “Nanjing is the second-largest commercial centre in the East China region and one of the country’s most populous cities. This new urban centre is set to become the preferred destination for residents and visitors to this historic city, creating a strategic balance between exuberant public places and quieter family-orientated communities.”

Nanjing is approximately an hour and a half by high-speed train from Shanghai and is a key hub in the development of China’s high-speed network. ‘City Park’ is located near the new Nanjing South high-speed rail station and forms an integral part of the Nanjing South Terminal City development master plan. The project has an overall construction value of approximately $500 million. David Ju of Westbank is the Project Director for ‘City Park’: “China is a dominant global player and we feel privileged to be connected to the country in so many exciting ways. While Westbank continues to develop quality projects in North America, we are very excited to have embarked on this opportunity in Nanjing with the cooperation of Kasian and our Chinese partners. We believe that this dynamic alliance will foster yet another iconic project in the fastest growing economy in the world.”

The official signing ceremony for ‘City Park’ will take place today at the Fairmont Peace Hotel in Shanghai, China and will be witnessed by the British Columbia Premier, the Honourable Christy Clark. The Premier is visiting the city as part of a Province-led jobs and trade mission to China and India, aimed at strengthening existing relationships in the Asia-Pacific region.
